J. Mike Helfer
President, Director, Ultimate Designated Person and Advising Representative
Mr. Helfer is currently a Director, President, Ultimate Designated Person and an Advising Representative of the CareVest® Management Corp. Mr. Helfer has been active in real estate lending, particularly commercial mortgages since 1997, in a variety of roles including Broker, Lender, and member of the CareVest’s credit committee. Between May 1, 2007 and April 1, 2016 he held various positions with CareVest Capital Inc., finally in the role of Vice President and Broker. From November 6, 2012 to May 1, 2015, Mr. Helfer was President of CareVest® Management Corp. Prior to joining CareVest Capital Inc. in 2007, Mr. Helfer held several positions in real estate finance, including, Business Development Manager, Commercial Mortgage Division for a major Canadian chartered bank and Associate Manager, Alberta Mortgage investments for a large life insurance company. Mr. Helfer holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a concentration in Finance and was licensed in Alberta as a mortgage associate from February 2008 to August 2016.
Philip Yee
Chief Financial Officer
Philip is currently CareVest’s Group Chief Financial Officer. Located in our Vancouver office, Philip is responsible for overseeing the corporate finance activities and reporting obligations of the CareVest group. Philip has over 25 years experience working as CFO, VP (Finance) and/or Corporate Secretary for reporting issuers listed on TSX or TSX Venture exchanges. Philip holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in business with a finance specialization as well as a graduate degree in engineering and currently holds both a CPA in BC (Canada) and Washington State (USA) as well as the internal audit certification (CIA).
Steven Joseph, CPA
Chief Compliance Officer and Advising Representative
Steven currently serves as the Chief Compliance Officer of the group's Investment Fund Manager, CareVest Management Corp., and brings two decades of real estate finance and management experience to his role at CareVest. Prior to joining CareVest in 2021, Steven served as CFO for over 15 years with a leading Calgary home builder and land development firm. Steven started his career in public accounting at Deloitte. At CareVest, Steven is responsible for overseeing compliance and risk management for the group. In addition to holding the CPA, CA designation, Steven earned a business degree from the Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria, and has completed the Canadian Securities Course and Partners, Directors and Senior Officers Examination through the Canadian Securities Institute.
